Happy Apple Backpackers is only 25 mins drive from the beautiful Abel Tasman National Park, where you can experience all the wonders of New Zealand's biodiversity, complete with clear blue water, golden sand beaches and fantastic sunshine in both summer and winter.

You can explore Abel Tasman National Park by foot, sea kayak, water taxi or a combination of all three depending on the pace you want to set, but whatever you decide you are guaranteed a great time with fantastic scenery and activities to suit all.

Motueka, with a population of 15,000 is a friendly town with great shopping, cafés, galleries, orchards and excellent wineries, and of course our Sunday market is open all year round with some great local crafts and produce to sample.

Kahurangi National Park is NZ's 2nd largest park and is also on our doorstep. It offers the opportunity for people of all fitness levels to hike in beautiful alpine native bush.

The Lagoon Walkway close to Happy Apple Backpackers follows the estuary to the beach where you can wander in perfect solitude, peacefully watching the many migrating sea birds resting and recovering from long flights across the Tasman . . . then return to your dorm before breakfast.

For more active pastimes you could try out some of our other local activities which include skydiving, river & sea kayaking, fishing, visiting Harwoods Hole and Ngarua Caves, playing golf, horse riding, sailing or swimming with the seals. Or pilot a stunt plane, fly a helicopter or just charter a catamaran and float around our magnificent coastline.
